The Interview

Q: Why do you do what you do? What motivates DooM49?
A: I started off playing Bad Company 2 and I thought to myself, “I’m doing a lot of awesome things — I should record and post this.” Ever since then I started posted videos and people really enjoyed it.

Q: Explain some of the series you do on your YouTube channel.
A: There’s a lot, actually. I basically record every time I play and it always seems that something funny or awesome happens. Next thing you know, you have a video from practically every game possible.

Q: What is the Troll Army all about and how can people become involved with it?
A: Well, it’s basically taking the fact that I love doing a lot of shenanigans in Battlefield and putting it on a large scale. Alone, it’s a question of “how do I troll a sniper?” With an army, it’s more like “how do I troll an entire team?” As for joining, everyone’s basically invited; just follow me on Twitter or Facebook and make sure to have teamspeak. I’ll be calling out on twitter and facebook when events are happening.

Q: You play on PC, Xbox 360, AND PS3… is it difficult to always be switching between the three?
A: I wouldn’t say difficult… it’s more laziness. PC is my main platform. When it comes to the Xbox 360 and PS3, I have to hook it up and do a lot of updates before I can play, so I end up getting lazy before bothering to get on the other platforms.

Q: Having a nice PC setup, what keeps you gaming on consoles?
A: It’s more for the fans really. Everything I need is on the PC, but it’s always fun to game it up with some fans and have a blast with them.

Q:What do you think the future holds for gaming channels on YouTube? Do you think the current partnership model will continue to be implemented?
A: Hmm, that’s a good question. I think the gaming channels will continue to grow and the partnership model will reflect it. Although, I can’t really tell how by much or by what factor.

Q: Will commentators learn to work more cooperatively under partnerships?
A: If you enjoy doing what you are doing and you get paid for it, then why not?

Q: At what age did you start gaming? What were some of your favorite games growing up?
A: I started when I was 10, I think — I’m not sure. I was more athletic than anything and played a lot of hockey. My brother got me into Counter-Strike and ever since then I became big in gaming. I ended up playing CS 1.6 competitively and was even paid to play on LAN with hotels paid for, etc. Needless to say, the competitive scene of any game is actually not very fun and very stressful. I’d rather play games to have fun and that’s when I started getting into bad company 2.

Q: How did you get into the Battlefield series? Do you feel the series is heading in a positive direction?
A: Started off in Bad Company 2 and I think DICE is doing an awesome job with the Battlefield series.

Q: You’re known as a funny guy, but is there anything about you that people may not know or that you’d want them to know?
A: “I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause

I will travel across the land
Searching far and wide
Each Pokemon to understand
The power that’s insidePokemon, its you and me
I know it’s my destiny
Pokemon, oh, you’re my best friend
In a world we must defend”

Q: How would you describe your subscriber/fanbase?
A: I’d say they like the same things I do. Other than that, they’re an awesome bunch!

Q: DooM49, you are almost at 100,000 subscribers! Anything special planned for when you reach 100K?
A: A very special video that has been taking months of planning to prepare. Many will make me laugh.

Q: Where do you see your channel in the coming months/year? Any major changes?
A: I don’t seen any major changes, keep on track one day at a time.

Q: Do you plan on continuing YouTube after you’ve completed school and have a full-time career?
A: Well, that depends. Will I have time to do it? If I do, then why not.

Q: What new game releases for this coming year are you most excited for?
A: Hello Kitty Island Adventure EPIC EXPANSION!

This was the most funniest interview I have ever seen in my life, I was laughing so hard when reading the Pokémon theme song. I shouldn’t read these things in public transport, people were like:’Dafuq is going on?’

DooM, you’re awesome I hope you read this,

I love this idea. I know people have suggested video interviews but sometimes being able to read quietly is a nice change of pace. Plus it makes it easier for the interviewee.

    Looking forward to more!

This is a nice insight into a popular YouTube commentator. What advise does he have for new commentators?
